On Hiatus

This blog will be on hiatus as most of us are/will be having exams. Yes, the end of the year is approaching. We always have mixed feelings about that. Be it personal achievements or development, we tend to question ourselves on whether we did it right this year or is there something which we can do to make up for the lost time. How many of us actually manage to cross out the new year resolutions which we excitedly list out on every January? But hey it's only September, if you have anything which is yet undone, please do it up now.

Live life with no regrets, live life with no apologies. - Paulo Coelho

We would like to wish all of you who are facing exams in year end the best of luck!
On a lighter note, the end of the year also brings various celebrations and festivals. We had Hari Raya Aidilfitri and Mid-Autumn Festival. And of course Happy Malaysia Day! (if it's not too late).

Eco Fashion Show in INTI

The Eco Fashion Show 2011 was held in our main campus that is the INTI International University in Nilai on July 13th 2011. It's a unique fashion showcase which provides an opportunity for talented designers to present fashion which has high sustainability as well as aesthetic sense.
The event aims to:
*Create global warming & fair trade awareness in general
*Promote sustainable clothing
*Educate youths through this go-green campaigns
*Experience an exclusive runway event for the first time at INTI IU

The prefix 'Eco' may sound too cliched these days. Some may not think that it would go well with the full-of-hype word 'fashion'. If you think that way, you are proved wrong (see pictures of eco haute coutures below)! Sustainable and environment friendly clothings do not have to look boring or dull in comparison to their common peers. They can be as vibrant as the commercial clothings and yet contribute in helping to save our Mother Earth. In fact, eco fashion is about making clothes that take into account hte environment, the health of consumers and their working conditions of people in the fashion industry. So it seems to be a good deal and a win-win situation, isn't it? Most Eco Fashion clothes are made from organic material which don't involve harmful chemical and fabric colorings, and sometimes even better, from recycled material. This is why ecofashion industry is championed and supported even by top brands such as Levi.

A Funny Experience in INTI

One of my funny experience in college happened early this year. The water fountain near the lifts at the other end at level 4 burst and flooded the whole level.  I have no idea why it burst as I wasn’t on level 4 at that time but I went and see the damage the water did. It was really bad. The water was just spraying out of the pipe where the water fountain was. The water was spraying directly at the lift causing the lift to be seeping water in. The water also escaped through the emergency staircase. The water was flowing from one end to the other. There was so much water that the water entered the class and flooded the classes. Eventually, they shut off the main water source so the water would stop spraying causing the whole of Inti Subang to not have water for the whole day. The cleaners had to clean the whole of level 4 and it took a very long time. It was a funny experience because classes were cancelled on that day. Unfortunately for me, my class was still on because our class was the furthest class from the water so it was dry and unaffected from the incident. Despite that, I still find it funny because it is something that you don’t see every day. - I-May

Accounts on Tremor

If I’m asked about any horrifying experience I had in Inti, it would be the recent earthquake tremor which sent lecturers and students scurrying out of the campus. June 14th, was the day it happened. The incident was a blend of fear and funny moments. That morning, I had a free period between the transition from Chemistry to Biology class. I decided to proceed to Level 8 with my friend, who also had the break. Not long after we settled down at a study table, we began to attempt our homework and silence then prevailed. Amidst being utterly immersed into solving a mathematical problem, I felt a sudden shake on my chair, followed by the table. My friend who was sitting at the opposite side of me, thought she felt dizzy for a while. We gave each other a silent stare. It was as though we both had telepathy when a second later, we started stuffing all our books and pencil cases into our bags without telling each other to do so. Then, we hurried to the staircase for an escape. Along the way, we witnessed many students who were frantically running like us. Subsequently, an inner monologue of memade me realised that I had experienced the first tremor of my life! -Jocelyn

It was a lazy Tuesday morning. I arrived in college at about 10 am. I was so blur that I didn't notice what is happening at the basketball court and pressed the lift button. Then someone came and stopped me but I wasn't told the reason for the evacuation. Thinking that it was another fire drill, I went to the basketball court to search for my classmates. Apparently I have missed the first tremor. From my friends, I got to know that the tremor here is caused by an earthquake in Indonesia. Approaching noon, while I was having Physics Indonesia was again hit by another earthquake. This time I could really feel the furnitures shaking. On a whim, everyone started packing and headed for the stairs. I was a bit apprehensive while rushing down the stairs amidst the chaos and a hodgepodge of noisy students. To my surprise, there were still an indifferent lot who walk down the stairs unconcerned and some even chose to stay at the top floors to 'take a better picture of the crowd'. The college used the PA system for the first time, calling students and staff to evacuate. The fire and rescue department were in the college to check the buildings' safety. Nevertheless everyone was given a day off. This experience just made me feel glad that Malaysia is not prone to serious disasters. -Josephine

INTI English Week

Last week was INTI English Week. The objective of the event is to raise the standard of English of our students. For a more comprehensive write-up, look out for 4-page article prepared by us in INTI Bytes!

Here are some pictures and a short write-up about the treasure hunt.

Treasure Hunt

Foundation students of IICS lead by Kevin Ong were given the opportunity to host an English Themed Treasure Hunt. Kevin and his creative team had proved to IICS students that learning English is more than just reading from textbook and that the world’s major language in daily life has a wide range of uses.
Starting from the Concourse Area of IICS as their starting station, all 6 teams were instructed to follow their clues which lead them to task stations. At the task stations treasure hunters were tested in different aspects of their skills. From coconut dribbling to water balloon catch to copying music lyrics but the challenge rated as the most difficult was finding certain words in newspaper articles in limited time. If any team failed to complete any task, that team have to complete and extra task in the punish station before proceeding the hunt. While majority of task involve some sort of skills and talent, each task normally ends with solving an English based questions and puzzles.

After 2 hours of toil from 12-2pm, Lilian, Johnson and Yee Teng from Cambridge A-Level and Northwood University were titled winner and won T.G.I Friday’s vouchers. All-boys teams Jason, Marcus and Eugene came second while team Jyun, Kerry and Chris took third place, both teams from Diploma in Hospital Management. After a brief chat with some of the contestants, they all agreed that the race was physically and academically challenging but it was fun, worth the experience and the best way to learn English.

Prize-giving and Luncheon

A hearty congratulation and big applause to the organizers of the English Week for their great success in coming up with such a successful event!
